Make It About Memories, Not Money 1

This summer, Mother Nature in Manitoba was very kind to us. The sun is shining and the temperature is amazing. And I will not mention the word M, the shortage of our busy little bites.

Now that the school is over, think about ways to entertain the kids for two months on the weekend. The younger generation has access to more technology and games than any previous generation, making it easier to visualize the summer spent indoors. So far, summer is on track and the best time to break through that cycle. While we are working on it, be smart about it and don't break the bank.

We live in a beautiful state that offers a great selection of activities. These range from day trips to weekly excursions for those who want to enjoy it. Here are some cost-effective options for making memories:

  1. Grand beach. This vast soft sandy beach and dunes are just an hour's drive from Winnipeg. This beautiful beach is listed as an experience for people all over the world, and many locals have not yet traveled. Ideal for a one-day holiday, camping, motel and cottage rentals are provided for long stays.
  2. Birds Hill Park. A short drive from the city, this very low year-round state park offers a variety of activities. Cycling, rollerblading and hiking are possible on paved natural trails. There are stables and very often you can see polo games. There are campsites with basic, electric or full service camping options and beaches with food and drink options.
  3. A small limestone lake. It is a little longer trip, but if you don't live near the sea, it is the closest distance to the Caribbean. It is the world's largest and best marl, a lake that changes color.
  4. Whiteshell State Park. Part of the Canadian Shield landscape, about 1.5 hours east of Winnipeg, is a treasure trove of natural resources. This park is full of wildlife because the wilderness is not disturbed at all. If you want to spend time on the lake, beach, waterfall, rapids, diving, sailing, swimming and water skiing are some options.
  5. Assiniboyne Zoo. An absolute gem in the city and one of the most beautiful city parks, this zoo offers a rich experience for both young and old. Now you have the opportunity to see the endangered snow leopard. Two little cubs settle in a new enclosure and are still waiting for their names. The new attraction Xtreme BUGS included in this summer's regular admission will be offered for a limited time. Literally one of the biggest attractions is the polar bear that can be seen in action without moving north.
This is such a small sampling of destinations available in Manitoba. If you like to travel and experience the outdoors, this is a great place to do it without damaging your wallet. Come out and experience everything you do in Manitoba!
