An allergic reaction can be defined as the induction of an abnormal immune response by contact with an external substance. It is a protective and detrimental reaction that is triggered by the immune system when our bodies come into contact with various allergens, and this reaction is exaggerated by the presence of antibodies. The tissues involved in this reaction are the nasal mucosa, eyes, and bronchi, and in some cases skin devices. These tissues become overactive and become more sensitive under certain external conditions, such as the presence of contaminants.
Allergic symptoms
Allergic reactions are more or less severe and affect the following tissues:
1. Conjunctivitis -Allergy symptoms are visible.
2.Rhinitis -It is characterized by mucous membrane inflammation, resulting in a rich secretion of mucus, a teary nose, redness of the eyes;
3. Asthma -This is one of the most serious forms of allergic reactions, where patients experience dyspnea.
4. Hay fever -This reaction is caused by the presence of pollen in the air and is commonly known as hay fever. This is not a very serious allergic reaction and can be treated with common over-the-counter drugs.
In addition to the above, there are a variety of allergic reactions that cause various skin diseases. The most common allergic symptoms that affect the skin are: -Measles-A condition where a small rash appears on the skin with severe itching. Eczema and contact dermatitis-These conditions are triggered when the skin comes into contact with special substances such as nickel and harmful acids. Sometimes insect bites can cause allergic symptoms on the skin.
These reactions occur only in individuals who are sensitive to specific molecules known as antigens and cause specific immune responses mediated by immunoglobulin E. Contact with substances that are allergic. The fact that there is no permanent treatment for allergies, therefore, patients are advised to avoid contact with allergens.
The most common allergen is pollen, especially those made by herbaceous plants such as wildflowers, olive trees, beech, birch, hazel, cypress, ragweed and psyllium.
