Pubic hair is the hair that grows in the genital area of the front, the crotch, and sometimes the upper inside of the leg. These areas of the body form the pubic area. In both men and women, pubic hair is usually darker and rougher than scalp hair. However, the pubic hair may be sparse or thin. The texture of the pubic hair varies from tight curls to completely straight. The pubic hair pattern varies depending on race and ethnicity.
How do male and female pubic hair develop?
Pubic hair develops in men and women during adolescence, a transition from childhood to adulthood. The onset of pubic hair is called the “pubic bone”. Before the onset of puberty, both boys and girls have very thin soft hairs in the genital area. However, at the beginning of puberty, the body begins to produce elevated levels of sex hormones known as androgens. For this reason, the skin in the genital area begins to produce hair that is fast growing, thick, rough and often curled.
In boys, some sparse pubic hair first appears on the top of the scrotum or penis. Within a year, the pubic hair around the base of the penis becomes denser. In 3-4 years, the hair fills the pubic area and becomes much darker. Genital hair develops toward the navel from near the thigh to the navel by the end of the fifth year.
In most girls, genital hair first appears along the edge of the labia and spreads forward in the next two years. In three years in puberty [the beginning of menstruation for most girls of this period], the pubic triangle is filled with hair densely. Two more years later, these hairs develop near the thighs, sometimes in small amounts from the abdominal line toward the navel.
Function of pubic hair
These hairs are said to perform the following functions:
- Provides warmth-protects important reproductive organs from the cold
- Collection of secretory pheromones
- Reduce external friction during sexual intercourse
- Sensitive pubic protection
- Indicate sexual maturity
Sounds strange, but many people spend time cutting and trimming their pubic hair like head hair. Famous fashion designer Mary Creek Want was proud that her husband had her pubic hair in a heart shape. Here are some of the popular pubic hairs.
- Natural or bush style -In other words, this means there is no trimming or maintenance to leave the genital hair in a natural state
- trimming -Hair length will be shortened, but these will not be removed or shaped
- triangle -In this practical style, it is removed from the sides [usually waxed] to form a triangle so that it is not visible while wearing a swimsuit.
- Landing zone -Removed sharply from the side to form a long rectangle vertically from the center, hair length is about 1/4 inch
- Brazilian wax -This common method completely removes the genital hair, except for the remaining central thin stripe about 1 inch in size on the vulva.
- dyed -These hairs are dyed to match the hair color of the head or to give a distinctive appearance [eg red-heart shape]
- Other -Some women style their genital hair with a V shape, heart shape, arrows, initials, and inspiration at that time. These are usually Brazilian style variations where the design is formed over a completely naked vulva
Many men and women go to bikini hair removal for a variety of reasons. Some people feel that removing genital hair makes them feel more hygienic and comfortable. Many people, especially women, go to bikini hair removal for sexual reasons. It gives the partner greater visual exposure to the genitals, improves tactile sensation, and facilitates oral sex. Preferred methods for bikini hair removal are shaving, waxing, the use of hair removal agents, electrolysis and laser hair removal.
