 Gen Z Is All About The Gig Economy  1


In 2017, it was almost a year to welcome Gen Z into the workplace. Millennials [Gen Y] have already established a safe place and are leading the show. They now need to equip themselves to lead beginners.

With this shift in generations, HR needs to start the foundation for accepting a new wave of staffing from true digital native [Gen Z]. Gen Z is always in contact with the digital world and it is completely impossible to separate them. This new partnership with fresh talent is not so easy. Recruiters should consider this generation of onboarding as a potential disruption to the organization and restructure their operations to make the most of the millennials.

In the modern employment market, recruitment teams and managers employ more temporary workers. In 2015, a survey from the Ardent survey highlighted the fact that by 2017 nearly 45% of the world's workforce will be dispatched workers. The characteristics of Generation Z show the fact that it is already influenced by the gig economy of independent contractors, freelancers, consultants and advisors.

Here are some of the peculiarities that distinguish Gen Z from other generations that lead to preference for the gig economy:

• Individuality:
The personality and the urge to stand out are inherent in this generation. They will find the job that is most suitable for them and will not settle for a job below that. Unsatisfactory work means moving to the next job.

• Multitasking:
The uncertainties that always surround Gen Z tend to change, resulting in the ability to effectively overcome distraction and multitasking skills. Being able to work in parallel means more hands-on experience with multiple projects and a wider portfolio.

• High expectations:
Gen z is an innate modernizer with an intriguing nature in learning and exploration. Job satisfaction is more than the salary they take home, and it relates to comfort, work environment and organizational flexibility. Such a prospect may be the reason why this generation prefers to work freelance or at home.

• Travel buff:
Gen Z is global and they are secular and unending. Ambitious about exploration and travel, it is more open to work around the world and ready to transfer.

• Technical familiarity:
Surrounded by constant upgrades and always digital devices, Gen Z is very technically savvy. They have the internet at their fingertips and learning has become easier. They are easily adaptable and very agile.

There isn't enough time available today, and there are many enthusiastic individuals who want to make the world a better place. It is now HR shoulder to do homework and analyze the potential and capabilities that Gen Z can bring to this highly competitive job market.
