What is the Truth About Carbs? 1

Carbohydrates have been given a bad reputation in recent years.

If you believe in everything the diet industry and media suggest, the only way to lose weight is to not touch the fruit, bread, or pasta bowl again! This idea is not only inconvenient but also harmful.

The human body is designed to function optimally when receiving certain types of food. Carbohydrates are a type of food that the body needs. Let's examine the types of carbohydrates and how they contribute to a healthy weight loss diet.

Simple carbohydrate

Simple carbs are the “bad carbs” you've heard. Their molecular structure is so small that the body absorbs them easily. Your body quickly converts simple carbohydrates to simple sugars. This not only makes the carbohydrates tasty, but also makes your body store extra as fat. Simple carbohydrates consist of foods such as white bread, cakes, cookies, and white pasta. These foods should be restricted or avoided if you are trying to lose weight.

Complex carbohydrates

Complex carbohydrates are essential for proper nutrition. They provide quick energy, as well as essential nutrients and fiber. The fibers they contain will stick around your body a little longer, but they can still be quickly converted into much needed energy. Limit to a few meals a day, and you'll be fine. A good guideline is to target 15-20 grams of carbohydrate per day and 30-45 grams of carbohydrate per day.

fiber

It is necessary to consider the amount of fiber in the carbohydrate. If you choose daily carbohydrates, you can subtract grams of fiber from grams of carbohydrate. For example, if your cereal contains 25 grams of carbohydrate per serving but also contains 5 grams of fiber, these 5 grams are not counted in the total daily! Adding fiber to the diet is an easy way to promote weight loss. Choose foods such as wholemeal bread, fruits and vegetables.

When starting a weight loss plan, it is easy to assume that you need to cut carbohydrates. However, weight loss diets can contain complex carbohydrates. Choose whole grains such as brown rice, multigrain bread, and whole wheat pasta. Be sure to include fruits and vegetables. We are heading for a weight loss plan that includes carbohydrates.

There you have it-the truth about carbs!
