The term “homeschooling” refers to choosing to educate a child at home, rather than a public or private school. Usually one or both parents act as “teachers”, but not as classroom teachers. Yes, it is completely legal in all 50 states. In fact, it is illegal and even unconstitutional to not give parents the right to choose where, how and what to teach their children.
Homeschooling provides the child with a personal and individualized educational experience. Children learn faster and more when they receive one-on-one interactions with parents and tutors. Because parents are children, they place more emphasis on the individual success of each child. No one loves your child as much as you do.
Anyone who does homeschooling will say that this experience will build a closer relationship with the whole family. There are few problems with teenagers and parents getting along, and each child learns to contribute to the whole family. They are learning to interact with people of all ages as the real world works. Everyone is forced to unnatural groupings that are the same age.
There are as many different ways of homeschooling as a homeschooling family. Each family develops the systems, routines, and rhythms that are best for them. This doesn't mean you need to know everything before you start. Most families study many different theories, curriculums, and so on and try things that are attractive to them. If something goes wrong, try other things. There are no strict rules.
This is one of the main benefits of homeschooling. This means that the method you use is chosen to best suit your child's needs and learning style. If a particular topic is too easy, you can go ahead. When a child needs to spend more time learning skills, you can take whatever time is needed. In a traditional classroom, all teachers need to do the same thing at the same time. This bore people who have acquired the skills or leaves those who need special attention. This child-centered personal paced feature of homeschooling is a great attraction for many people.
There are no special skills or training required for homeschooling. You are a teacher simply because you are a parent. Homeschooler requirements vary from state to state, but I don't know about states that require homeschooling parents to have certifications or special degrees. In addition, most educational and research courses apply to traditional classrooms and manage 20 or 30 students at a time. They are not really focused on one-on-one instruction. There are many resources available to help parents who have no homeschooling experience. For example, the curriculum we use [currently in the sixth year] offers a daily lesson plan that summarizes everything you need to learn a topic. They also have a counselor available to answer questions that we may have. It's very difficult to fail without much support and support.
Of course, the packaged curriculum is not for everyone. However, even those who create their own study plans can find and assist with books, websites, support groups, and more. No one needs to “reinvent the wheel” when starting homeschooling.
I wish you the best no matter where you are on this journey. Finally, you need to find the path that works best for you. Don't let other people tell you.
