Knowing French opens many possibilities. French was actually my third language and I wanted to learn it, so I was able to blend better while in Paris. In this article, I will discuss some tricks I used to learn French in the shortest possible time.
You need to focus exactly on what you want to learn French. I was initially interested in "conversational" French, but it must be so too-I was not going to discuss deep philosophical issues with people yet. Speaking French first allows you to communicate quickly. The best way to drop this kind of communication is to use a speech learning program that focuses on common phrases and vocabulary. Listen to them in your car and you will have a lot of study time and this is also an easy way to learn pronunciation.
The other thing that helped me a lot was finding a list of the most common 1,000 French words. The truth is that in any language, the most common 1,000 words represent the majority of the languages used. Think of your daily communication in English-you are probably reusing a core set of many words. Using memorization techniques and appropriate sources, I was able to quickly understand these common words. These sets of words have led me to be more “conversational” than anything else.
