I mentioned the plastic used in some articles I wrote. This subject is so important that I decided to write an article that covers only this area.
Some plastics are on the market today. A plastic called UHMW is used on most machines. This is a plastic that has been used for many years and does a pretty good job in the bat rolling process. Most manufacturers just like the price of this product and don't want to spend more than the quality of this product.
This is a good choice, but it is smooth and slipping can be a problem. Adding texture to the roller can eliminate this material slip problem. I know a company that machines and textures this plastic.
At least one bat rolling manufacturer uses this plastic and calls it nylon. Because it looks like nylon, the average consumer never knows the difference.
Another plastic used in bat rolling machines is acetal. This particular plastic is very hard. For compression, the bat is rolled, but this plastic has some major drawbacks. Also called Delrin, it is actually a trade name. Acetal and Delrin are two different names for the same plastic.
Delrin-Acetal It works great in the industry, but has some astounding properties that are not so good with bat rollers and bat rolling machines. The plastic roller will last forever ... but you are at risk of bat damage. Unless you are a professional roller that has rolled hundreds of bats ... I won't get close to any machine using this product. This product Too hard To make a good choice. There is no forgiveness. Also, it is very smooth, and unless there is a texture, a harder and stiffer bat can be expected to cause slippage.
There is currently a third plastic on the market, sold as a unique plastic. The qualities mentioned in this plastic are not so hard, have memory and solve the problem of slipping. The plastic used in this machine is not mentioned for its own reasons, so it cannot contain the exact kind of this plastic. What I can say is that these are the qualities to look for when buying a high-end bat rolling machine.
The most important thing is to choose a machine that not only rolls bats well, but also has grips and is of acceptable quality. I don't suggest that it's difficult to roll or even rocket science. What I am saying is that it is important to do your homework so that you can choose a bat rolling machine and company from an educated and enlightened position.
wrap up:
1. If plastic is too hard, tolerance for forgiveness will be zero
2. If the plastic is too smooth, the bat will slide with hard bats and some new bats.
3. Do your homework and choose a machine that meets your needs and experience.
By following this overview, you can select the right machine and get a happy rolling for many years. Today there are really great bat rolling machines on the market.
