Africa's animal sanctuaries and national parks are all unique, each with its own draw card that appeals to visitors. A waterfall hole in Etosha National Park, Namibia, energizes us every year. Each puddle has its own characteristics, and during the dry season [June to October], these puddles are game magnets, and Etosha becomes a paradise for wildlife photographers.
Visitors to Etosha want to see as many animals as possible and take pictures, but usually there are only a few days. Here is a list of your favorite waterholes that stretch from west Ocquejojo camp to east Namtoni camp, with tips to help you save valuable time and improve game display and wildlife photography.
Okauquejo rest area :
Okukuji -This must be Etosha's most popular waterfall hole. There is a continuous line of animals from morning to night and you can see it from inside the camp. It is recommended to sit in the waterfall hole from just before the sun rises to around 09h00. The light is ideal for taking pictures of the sun shining over the shoulder. Watching hyenas and lions drinking, chasing the pigeons flying with black back jackals, and taking great action photos. If you sit in the waterfall hole for the rest of the time, elephants, springbok swarms, wildebeests, gemsboks, and zebras come to drink and you won't be disappointed.
Whether you stay in the waterfall hole or go for a drive, see the sunset brings a wonderful silhouette and reflections on the water, see the black rhinos fighting after the flood lights come on, and go back just before sunset As the killing of the lion after sinking!
Gemsbok Vulchte -I recommend visiting this waterfall hole in the afternoon-I saw a springbok, gemsbok, elephant and zebra herd here.
Olifants Bad -This is a morning waterfall hole that fascinated elephants, zebras, black-faced impalas, giraffes and red hartebeests and saw African wildcats drinking here.
Nebrony -This waterfall hole is close to Okauquejo, but you can drink many games here as well. I have seen a large herd of elephants, zebras, springboks, gemsboks, ostriches and giraffes. Because the waterfall water is small, elephants tend to be aggressive with each other and make some nice action photos. The lighting is suitable for both morning and afternoon photos.
Ocondeka -The afternoon light is the best. For landscapes this should be one of the best waterholes in the park. The waterfall hole is at the end of the pot, and animals come to drink from miles away, so you can take a picture of a lump of animals that has spread for miles. I saw a giraffe, a zebra, a springbok, a gemsbok, an ostrich, and a wildebeest all gathered in the plains surrounding the puddle. There is also a lion resident pride hiding in the dunes and ambushing animals.
Hararirest Camp Area:
Moringa -This waterfall hole is seen from inside the Harari Camp and has floodlights. There is usually a small flock of animals to drink here in the morning, but the night is at the beginning of the action, and a flock of elephants, black rhinos, lions and leopards appear!
Goas -This is our favorite waterfall hole in this area. I have seen a large herd of elephants, a black-faced impala, and black rhinos, lions and leopards. Lighting is suitable for both morning and afternoon.
Salvador -There is a nice background of open plains and bread. Zebras love to drink here, and there are about 2000 zebras in this waterfall hole. Provide the best lighting in the morning.
Liehfontein -This waterfall hole has a large open plain where you can see animals approaching from a distance. The afternoon lighting is perfect for photography.
Homob -Here we saw not only a small group of kudu and wildebeest but also a leopard. The morning light is the best.
Namtonilest Camp Area:
Namtoni -This waterfall hole is observed from inside the camp and is floodlit. It did not provide us a good sighting, except at sunset when hundreds of red-billed birds came to the roost and backlit the wings. Luckily watch out for the giraffe and get the silhouette towards the sunset. The fort also has a platform where you can see Kelea and other animals.
Klein Namtoni -Provides the best lighting in the afternoon, but can provide a nice silhouette in the morning. Giraffe, hyena, lion, leopard and elephant are drinking here.
Chadop -This waterfall hole is very beautiful on the floating island of floating. In the morning and afternoon, it provides lighting suitable for photography.
Calcuwell -Because this waterfall hole faces south, the photo lighting is good on most days. The waterfall hole attracts many animals and is very close to the parking lot, so you don't need a long lens to take good pictures!
Tweezer palm -I've mainly seen zebras here, but the two palm trees are perfect as backgrounds for morning photos and silhouettes in the late afternoon.
