All About Epoxy Garage Floor Coating Systems 1

Why is there an epoxy garage floor? The usual garage floor is just gray concrete. Over time, stains from grease, oil, and chemicals make ordinary gray concrete annoying. Epoxy garage floor coatings provide years of use and durability, and can withstand most dirt. Provide a beautifully finished surface to maintain the value of the house.

The most common epoxy floor coating system

There are three common systems that strengthen the garage floor.

1. Epoxy & polyurethane solid color system

2. Epoxy chip stone with polyurethane top coat system [partial vinyl chip broadcast]

3. Epoxy granitex with polyurethane top coat system [100% vinyl chip broadcast]

With these three epoxy systems, & # 39; good & # 39 ;, better & # 39; and & # 39; best & # 39; type of epoxy garage floor system.

Good system

Epoxy polyurethane solid color system is maintenance-free and lasts about 5-7 years, but requires a colored polyurethane maintenance coat. This garage floor coating is usually a two-coat thin film system. The thickness is 4-20 mils. It is applied by roller or airless spray.

Better system

The epoxy chipstone system is maintenance free and lasts about 7-12 years before a clear polyurethane maintenance coat is needed. This epoxy garage floor system usually consists of one colored primer coat of epoxy. Colored color coat with partial / light broadcast of vinyl chips to wet epoxy. Single layer coat of transparent polyurethane for protection. The thickness is about 20-30 mils.

Best system

Epoxy Granitex systems are 12-15 years durable without maintenance before requiring a polyurethane maintenance coat. This epoxy floor coating is usually one colored primer coat. Colored color coat with 100% vinyl chip / full broadcast. Two coats of transparent polyurethane.

Preparation

Proper surface treatment is essential for successful long-term installation. All surfaces to be coated must be free of contaminants that can interfere with bonding. To achieve a profile similar to 120 grains of sandpaper, concrete must be acid etched, shot blasted, or diamond polished. After preparation, it is necessary to inspect the concrete surface for holes and cracks. If the holes and cracks are valent, you need to perform patchwork. When you are ready, you are ready to start the installation.

Granitex epoxy garage floor system installation:

1. One coat roll of surface treatment, patchwork, and pigmented epoxy primer.

2. When the epoxy primer is dry, inspect, prepare, and roll one coat of pigmented epoxy in the primed area. Work on 10x10 or 12x12 sections at once. While the epoxy is wet, broadcast a vinyl chip to the wet epoxy. Make sure the area coverage is 100%. When all sections are completely covered, allow them to dry completely.

3. When all sections are dry, scrape any excess Granitex vinyl chips from the surface, clean and vacuum. Apply a thin coat of polyurethane to lock and lay vinyl chips.

4. Once the polyurethane is dry, apply a second coat to the last top coat. An optional non-slip resin sand can be added to increase slip resistance.

All epoxy garage floor coatings can be easily cleaned with a neutral liquid detergent. Then mop, hose and even “swipe”. Grease, oil, and most chemicals do not stain or absorb epoxy-coated floors.
