FMCG: Fast-moving consumer goods
It is called so-called because it is used / consumed / exchanged within a short purchase period. This varies from 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year. This is the world of FMCG, speed, adaptability, efficiency, and scale.
The FMCG industry is really vast. Thousands of different roles and skills are required, and the opportunities range from marketing, sales, retail and management ... The list continues. The FMCG industry is considered one of the most advantageous industries involved in both long term and short term. Of course, FMCG companies have to work very differently depending on whether their purpose is short term or long term, but there are opportunities for both.
Competition in the industry is certainly increasing. This is partly due to the increasing globalization speed. Companies are now forced to compete internationally and regionally [although rising oil prices make it easier for companies to take advantage of low local prices]. India, for example, is one of the fastest growing FMCG industries in the world. The amount of available elements of production keeps costs low and profits [relatively] high. This certainly had an impact on the country as the British FMCG industry tried to overcome the upward trend.
In many countries, the FMCG industry accounts for up to 10% of GDP. New Zealand, India, etc. are good examples of countries that rely heavily on the FMCG industry. Industry growth can also track significantly increased investments over the past 10-15 years.
The FMCG industry is an important industry in times when the unemployment rate is rising and job opportunities are decreasing. FMCG creates a huge amount of employment opportunities. Useful for the economy.
Examples of FMCG include food and drink, paper and magazines, pharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals, everyday electrical appliances, cleaning and household items.
There are many areas in the FMCG industry that I could talk about-it is a vast and interesting industry. I hope we can provide enough overviews to promote industry interest and further research. It's actually an overarching term for many small industries, so it's often an overlooked industry. The companies you meet most often are retail, marketing and delivery companies, but there are certainly more.
