The Mediterranean Diet: What the Greeks Know about Healthy Cuisine 1

“If you are healthy, you will probably be happy. If you are healthy and happy, you have all the wealth you need, not just what you want.” -Elbert Hubbard.

There are so many approaches to optimal wellness. Infomercial teaches you about a variety of meal plans, from pills and native plants to the benefits of liquid food over traditional weight loss methods. What should you believe?

One of Clarion's alerts is the old adage “if it is too good and not true-probably so”.

The Mediterranean diet relies only on old wisdom. Current research validation demonstrates that one man's daily diet is a trip to another man's optimal health.

In Greece, the specific symptoms of heart disease are one of the lowest in the world. The largest part of current scientific research is the long-term and protection of diets rich in fruits and vegetables in addition to the daily consumption of whole grains, legumes, fish, low-fat dairy products, olive oil and nuts It seems to show that it brings about healthy health benefits.

In a Mediterranean diet, you can see that optimal health is even more important than the associated weight loss. What Greek natives know intuitively for centuries is that adherence to common Mediterranean diet now reduces heart disease, increases life expectancy, and increases the life expectancy of some cancers. Linked to scientific data that can reduce risk. In Greece, the health benefits of olive oil have long been recognized.

The term “Mediterranean diet” is really a general term because the Greek diet remains varied. Many Greek dishes have North African and Italian influences, but Crete has proven to be a true treasure house for health research. Crete residents are one of the lowest risk countries for heart disease in the world.

Interestingly, Western cultures are considering the health benefits found in countries like Greece, but many young Greek people are looking for Western food. This trend has proven to be at odds with the health experienced by older Greeks. Parents consume melon, tomato stuffing, salad and yogurt, while the younger generation in Greece consumes cookies, hamburgers, french fries, pizza and pop. As a result, obesity is increasing among Greek youth cultures-researchers expect to be accompanied by an increase in heart disease over the next few years.

In the Mediterranean diet, butter is replaced by the health benefits of olive oil and fast food lunches are replaced by a variety of fresh vegetables. Chocolate and cola snacks are replaced with fresh fruit and nuts.

Perhaps the reason I've not heard so much about the Mediterranean diet, like other weight loss plans, is that there is no special pill purchase, special prescription prescription, or a 12-step meal plan to buy.

The Mediterranean diet works because common sense is common in dietary choices and elevated HDL cholesterol [good cholesterol] is an indicator that they are doing the right thing. The health benefits of olive oil cannot be overstated. Traditional Greek cuisine uses fresh garden ingredients and extra virgin olive oil. In tandem, this common sense approach continues to reduce the incidence of heart disease and colon cancer, along with an increase in life expectancy and overall weight loss.
