Retirement Issues for Boomers: About Schmidt, the Movie 1

About Schmidt Together with Jack Nicholson and Kathy Bates, this is an R-rated film about retirement from 2002.

Nicholson plays a newly retired insurance company, but he feels that retirement is quite different from what he wanted [like many of us]. His wife dies, daughter marries someone who doesn't like him, life is not good ...

It's a really great retirement movie and it's so funny to see how they portray this new retiree! Please note that this is not a pleasant movie-it's pretty true and a bit sad about the retirement transition.

The show opens, showing him sitting in an almost empty office, staring at the clock near 5pm and waiting to leave the retirement door. Then he makes a final look.

Retire D ...

Then there are retirement parties, speeches, and his half-smile. A retired man said, “Retirement gifts don't mean things, retirees don't mean things, pensions and social security don't mean things. You do a great job and are a productive member of society. I work for the best-rated insurance company in the country, have been respected by the community and have great lasting friendship.I say I did my job and did it well ... And you are seeing a very rich man! "Schmidt is still half laughing ...

The next morning, at 6:59 am, he stood up and worked on the crossword with a cup of coffee. The wife makes breakfast and you can tell that his heart is simply not in it.

He watches TV and flips from channel to channel, but is not interested in most things.

In a suit, he returns to the office and asks the person who took the previous job if he needs help. Did he have any questions? Is there anything that needs explanation? Disagreeable. No, no. But when he got home, he told his wife that they needed a loose end help.

Where he wrote a letter of introduction to the adopted child, removing some of the stress from the chest about the new shift worker, about wrinkles and ear hair, and where he thought his life was heading early in front of the family Talk about. He talks about his 42-year-old wife and everything that frustrates her.

This is where my wife dies. His minister talks about anger and why it's okay. The daughter goes home. The funeral is over. He is alone.

His sad single life begins ... he tries the RVing adventure, travels the path of memory and attends the daughter's wedding. He is a lost soul, not just happy with life, but does not seem to know what to do or who he is. A familiar sound?

** the end **

Hey-did you expect me to spill beans throughout the movie? This is it ... This is a particularly thoughtful movie if you are new to retirement!
